The 61st anniversary of Kannada Rajyotsava, commemorating the formation of Karnataka State, was celebrated at Expert P. U. College, Valachil with utmost propriety.
Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman, Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation inaugurated the programme by paying floral tributes to Kannadambe Bhuvaneshwari Devi, Mother Goddess of Kannada Language and Culture. The Kannada Flag was then unfurled by the Honourable Chairman, followed by the rendition of the Karnataka State Anthem.
In his address, Prof. Nayak explained the historical significance of Kannada Rajyotsava at length, highlighting the formation of “Mysore State” (a unified Kannada-speaking sub national entity) on 1 November 1956 and the subsequent renaming of the state as "Karnataka" on 1 November 1973. Asserting the importance of language in preserving indigenous culture, the honourable Chairman urged the students to master Kannada language with a sense of pride and dedication. He even motivated the students to score centum in Kannada in the P. U. Board Exams. He also used this opportunity to acknowledge the everlasting contributions of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesaraya and inspired the students to emulate his achievements.
Dr. N. K. Vijayan, Principal of Expert P. U. College, Valachil who hails from Kerala, surprised one and all, by his extempore speech in Kannada. In his short and sweet talk, Dr. Vijayan lauded the greatness of Kannada literature, having bagged the prestigious Jnanpith Award eight times.
Mrs. Vidyasharada G. K. H.O.D. Kannada Department and Programme Director of the event co-ordinated the programme.
Sanjana D. of K-2 batch welcomed and proposed the vote of thanks, besides compering the programme.
