EXPERT P. U. COLLEGE, VALACHIL: ANNUAL SPORTS DAY – 2016

The Annual Sports Meet of Expert P.U. College, Valachil was held at the Time-square Ground in an atmosphere charged with excitement and ebullience.The event was organized as an inter-house competition between four houses of the college viz. Arkavathi, Hemavathi, Nethravathi and Sharavathi.

Mr. M. Chandra Sekhar IPS, Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Ceremony. Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation presided over the function. Mrs. Ushaprabha N. Nayak, Vice Chairperson, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation; Mr. Ankush N. Nayak, Alumnus, Expert P. U. College graced the programme.

The Chief Guest unfurled the Expert flag signalling the start of the Annual Sports Day. Then students of the four houses, dressed in colourful attire, performed the graceful march past and provided the ceremonial guard of honour to the dignitaries.

Invocation in the form of mass rendition of the college anthem was followed by the Oath taking ceremony wherein Prof. Balakrishna Shetty, Programme Director and H.O.D. of Chemistry Department, administered the solemn oath to all the participants. 

Thereafter, Miss Siri S. Gowda (M-2 Batch); Miss Spoorti Patil (K-1 Batch); Master

  1. K. Prajwal Madaiah (B-2 Batch); Master Gagan G. N. (G-2 Batch) and Master Sourav Patel H. S. (P-1 Batch), with proven track record in sports and games at the State and National levels, ran a lap with the Sports Torch and handed it over to the Chief Guest. Subsequently, the Chief Guest declared the sports meet open by releasing the balloons.

Mr. M. Chandra Sekhar, in his address, reminisced about his school days in Chennai and shared fond memories of Mr. Walter Isaac Devaram IPS, the DGP of Tamil Nadu (now retired), who was the Chief Guest on the occasion of Annual Sports Day. In fact, Mr. Chandra Sekhar confessed that it was Mr. Devaram’s rousing speech that inspired him to become an IPS Officer. Recounting the story from the Mahabharata on Arjuna’s unparalleled concentration, the Chief Guest urged the students to have unswerving focus in life and advised them to remember this story whenever they lose track of their ultimate goal.

Acknowledging the reputation of Expert P. U. College in propelling the future careers of students, the Chief Guest motivated the students to bring honour and glory to the institution. Stressing the importance of sportsmanship in life, he counselled them to play hard, to stretch themselves to their limit and learn to accept the result gracefully.

Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman of Expert Educational and Charitable Foundation handed over the memento to the Chief Guest.

Dr. N.K. Vijayan, Principal and Mr. N. Gurudutt, Vice-Principal were also present on the occasion. Master Nischith G. Sports Captain (Boys) welcomed the esteemed gathering while Miss Surabhi Sports Captain (Girls) proposed the vote of thanks.

After the inaugural ceremony, students participated in 11 events viz. 100 m, 200 m, 400 m, 800 m, 4x100 m relay, Long jump, Shot put, Throw ball (Girls), Volley ball (Boys), Chess (Singles), Carrom (Doubles) and Shuttle Badminton. Apart from those events, a Cricket match between Male Teaching and Non-teaching Staff and a Throw ball match between Female Teaching and Non-teaching Staff were also organised, much to the delight of the cheering students.

EXPERT ANNUAL SPORTS DAY-2016: VALEDICTORY CEREMONY 

Mrs. Vandana Shanbhag Pai Maroor, Olympian and Arjuna awardee was the Chief Guest of the Valedictory Ceremony of Expert Annual Sports Day – 2016. She gave away the prizes to the winners of various sports events and congratulated them.

In her address, the Chief Guest admitted that she feels pleased to be part of any sport-related event. She also expressed her admiration towards “Expert” for establishing itself as the No. 1 institution in academics, in the whole of Dakshina Kannada district. Speaking about the importance of sports and physical activity in the overall psychological and physical wellbeing of a person, she remarked that sports and games go a long way in overcoming stress. She thanked the management for inviting her and offered her best wishes for the future endeavours of “Expert”.

Hemavathi and Sharavathi Houses shared the Over-all Championship while Deepak K. R. (O-1 Batch) and Spandana Suresh (L-2 Batch) bagged the Individual Championships for boys and girls respectively.

Mrs. Ushaprabha N. Nayak, Vice Chairperson, Expert Educational & Charitable Foundation presented mementos to the Chief Guest and the personnel (Invited Physical Directors and Coaches) who officiated at the sports meet.

Mr.Thippanna, Physical Director, Expert P. U. College and his team lowered the college flag, signalling the end of the sports meet.

The programme came to an end with the rendition of the National Anthem.

Dr. N. K. Vijayan, Principal and Mr. N. Gurudutt, Vice-Principal were also present on the dais.

Mr. Bharath Poojary, Faculty, English Department compered the programme and welcomed the august gathering while Prof. Balakrishna Shetty, Programme Director and H.O.D. of Chemistry Department proposed the vote of thanks.
