As part of the sesquicentennial celebration of Periodic Table, the department of Chemistry, Expert PU College, Valachil, Mangalore has conducted a competition an exhibition named ‘Chem-Expo’. The United Nations Organization has announced the year 2019 as the International year of the Periodic Table of the chemical elements to highlight its first publication in 1869, which was first designed by the Russian Scientist Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev.
Prof. Narendra L. Nayak, Chairman, Expert Group of Institutions inaugurated the exhibition. “This type of competition are capable of enhancing not only the knowledge but also the creativity of students” – Prof. Nayak said. As many as 50 periodic tables which are varied in material and making were exhibited. Apart from the traditional one, there were pyramid form of periodic tables were also there.
Dr. Ushaprabha N. Nayak, Vice-chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions in her keynote address appreciated the students who made use of the Philosophy of ‘wealth out of waste’, in preparing the table.
Dr. N K Vijayan Karippal, Principal, Mr. Balakrishna Shetty, HOD of Chemistry & Mrs. Anuradha G Bhat programme director were present. Mrs. Sheryl Florence D’Souza compered the programme. Over 2500 students and teachers viewed the exhibition.
N1 batch for Boys, I1 batch for Girls, M1 batch for Boys & L1 batch for girls were the Winners and Runners up respectively.
